Katia Fermon

Lead Campus Professional

Katia is the Lead Campus Professional for Hillel BC at SFU, Langara, Emily Carr University, and an active support to other campuses throughout the region. Her professional goals are to create a safe and welcoming environment for students and staff she meets at every campus. This is achieved by holding social and cultural events at every campus at least once a week. Katia has been with Hillel BC since 2019. She was born in Mexico City to a Sephardic Jewish Family with ancestry from Greece, Turkey, and Spain. She began her professional life after graduating with a BA in History as an educator and moved to Vancouver to pursue a Master’s degree in education at UBC in 2014. Before working at Hillel, Katia dedicated herself to education in non-formal environments, such as museums and galleries. She also has years of experiences as a Social Sciences teacher. Fluent in Spanish, English and Hebrew, Katia is now dedicated to sharing knowledge and community experiences through a variety of programming in person and online. In her spare time Katia enjoys outdoor activities such as kayaking, hiking, and camping … weather permitting! When it’s colder you’ll probably find her in a library, museum, or movie theatre!
