Gilad (Gili) Cohen
Lead Advocacy Professional
Gilli is the lead advocacy professional at Hillel BC. He grew up in Toronto’s Jewish community where he developed a profound love for the community which educated and challenged him. Gilli attended McGill University, graduating with a first-class joint honour’s BA in Political Science and Religious studies. Throughout his time at McGill, he was both an active advocate for McGill’s Jewish student body, and a proponent of studying Jewish institutional development. He served Hillel McGill as the VP first year outreach, the VP Public Affairs, and helped organize the first ever McGill Face to Face trip to Israel with students from McGill. Additionally, Gilli’s honours thesis, written this past winter, analyzes the political development of Montreal’s Jewish community from 1882-1948, a period where Montreal’s Jewish community transformed from a shtetl like corridor on St Laurence Street, to an institutionally robust pseudo-state. His thesis has since been published in the McGill Journal of Political Studies. In his spare time, Gilli loves to read, hike, do yoga and most of all, learn from those around him.
