Abigail Schmidt-Brown

Lead Campus Professional (UVic)

Based in , Abigail is the Lead Campus Professional for Hillel BC at the University of Victoria as of July 2021. She completed her Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies and Spanish at Uvic in May of 2020. Throughout her time studying and working in Victoria and beyond, she has had the opportunity to undertake undergraduate research through the Jamie Cassels Undergraduate Research Award (JCURA), go on an immersive language exchange to Spain and work with UVic’s multi faith services to provide programming to support the spiritual, mental, and physical health of UVic students. Some of Abigail’s main professional foci are spiritual community building and compassionate education on sometimes tough issues. For example, her JCURA project focused on antisemitism in the dialogue surrounding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and she spent a summer at Calgary’s Heritage Park educating the public on the history of Jewish settlement in Canada. She has also taken an interest in regenerative agriculture and travelled this past spring to Saskatchewan to complete the Young Agrarians Apprenticeship program. Born to American parents, Abigail grew up in Calgary, Alberta and has lived in places across the world including Germany, Holland, and the USA. In her free time, you will find her outside hiking — on her bucket list is to complete the Camino de Santiago and the Appalachian Trail — in her yoga studio, or spending quality time with her friends and family. She is a self-proclaimed coffee fanatic and after ample taste testing believes Victoria’s Hey Happy has the best cup of Joe in town.
